Flea Update...Plus The Winner Is...

After consulting with both my vets (holistic and traditional) over the phone,
we chose the traditional vet to solve my flea problem.
So off we went in the toaster to...

It is a very nice place.
They have benches in the waiting area that I find quite comfortable...

And a stylish cookie jar filled with treats just for me!

Mom gave me one right away :)
I always get lots of treats at the vet.
Mom brings some for the staff and doc to give me so
I like them all very much!

They even brought a chair into the examination room for me...

I really do prefer furniture over the floor :P

While I was there, they gave me a shot
(they even let me stay in the chair for it!)
of Dexamethasone for my flea itches.
I was very good and didn't even flinch :)
Yep, that got me more treats!

Shortly after that Mom paid the bill and we went home.

This is what I got to solve my flea problems...

Sentinel for heartworm protection (Mom was very happy they gave her credit for the 5 unused Hearguard she had previously purchased) and to kill the flea eggs plus...

Capstar to take should we see any more adult fleas.
There haven't been any for the last couple days. Yay!
Should another flea infestation occur (Goodness Forbid!),
then we would likely supplement the Sentinel with Comfortis instead.

While we were at the vet, Mom also asked about something to help me through storms. I get so upset. I run to my bunker and shake and pant until after the storm passes. :(

We decided to have two remedies on hand...

Composure Soft Chews for mild short storms and...

a prescription of Alprazolam
(basically a generic of Xanax)
for the really bad house shaker storms.

Oh pawlease let this stuff work!

One day later...

I am happy to report that I have had zero itchiness and
the redness on my skin is almost gone!!!

I think I have this flea thing under control :D

I'm SOOOOO Happy! :D

Now for the moment you've all been waiting for...

The winner of the "Crappy Little Contest" is...

She was the first to correctly guess it was...

That's right, the cement poop is #5.

Thanks everyone for playing and...
especially for all the laughs! :D

Sallie, your SUR PRIZE has been shipped :P

Waggin at ya from the Flea Free Zone :D

PeeS: Thanks again to all who shared what flea products worked for you. All of them that we had not tried in the past were discussed with our vets. It was extremely helpful to have this plethora of potential solutions for discussion and decision purposes! :D

PeePeeS: And for those who were wondering why my poop is so white...
No, I don't eat chalk BOL! It's because of my raw diet. The poop you saw was about a day old. It turns white and then pretty much disintegrates if you don't scoop it soon enough. Mom likes to keep my favorite poop spots clean so she scoops at least a couple times per week vs. letting it disintegrate. And guess what? My stuff doesn't stink even when fresh! (Well not much anyway ;)

A Crappy Little Contest...

I know you were hoping I wasn't being literal.
Well...

Alas I am.
You see while Mom was poop scooping this morning,
she found a piece of cement that looks just like my poop.

She thought my furiends would have 'fun' trying to pick out
the faux poop from my real poop (What the ???)

Many treats later...I agreed.
Yes, I do accept bribes :P

So...Take a close look (snicker snicker) at the below photo
and pick-a-poop you think is the fake one.

The first comment with the correct guess will receive a

SUR PRIZE

in the mail :D

The correct poop # and the very lucky winner will be announced
on this Saturday's post.

Happy sniffing ;D

Everywhere I Turn...

Color here, color there, color color everywhere! :D

This one of our neighborhood Jacaranda Trees...

Its petals carpet the roads and lawns this time of year :)

This is another flower Mom found in our back yard.
She doesn't remember what it's called.
It has survived many lizard pounces :)

The blooms of my squash plants!

These next two are from bushes in our backyard...

A copper plant leaf in the morning sun.

And a powder puff bush bloom.

This hibiscus is in our front yard.
Mom was very surprised to see this bloom as the plant
had been bitten rather hard by Mr. Frosty.

This is a Mexican Petunia growing along the front of my house.
It's very drought tolerant and blooms most of the year.

This is our gazing ball.
If you look closely, you can see one of the above flowers reflected :)

Also in our front yard are some bromeliads.
This one is not blooming.
Mom thinks it is so pretty just by itself that its almost
overkill to have it bloom.
Kind of like putting makeup on J-Lo ;)

This is Mr. Spooky with a dwarf bougainvillea covering his mouth.

Bougainvillea's color come from their leaves.
The actual flowers are very tiny...

These are fragrant jasmine blooms that greet you
as you walk toward our front door.
They always bring a smile to Mom's face and
tell me I'm home :D

Lastly are my year round flowers...

They do their best to cheer me up on the greyest of days :)

Hope this tour of color has put more cheer in your day!

PeeS: Thank you everyone for sharing what has worked for you to attack my flea problem. We're working on it :) Mom put down some diatomaceous earth but Murphy was still here and it rained that night. So that went pfffft. Good news is Murphy has left us. Bad news is I hear he is now a guest at Pip's place. We feel for ya Mr. Pip. We have calls in to our vets (yes we have two at the moment; one holistic and one traditional) to discuss some of the alternatives you all have suggested to Advantage. In the meantime, it seems the many layers of chemicals are starting to do their job. Yay! My pawrents only find one or two on me now each day. I take Benedryl and get rubbed with holistic lotions to help my itchiness (I'm allergic to flea saliva). So bottom line...things are looking up! :)

I've Been Feeling A Bit Crabby Lately...

So my pawrents brought home this...

They have a very odd sense of humor I think.
Actually I kind of like him. He cools my feet and
I can lay in him when it's hot and not worry about sinking :)

Now as to why I've been feeling crabby...
We've had a guest staying with us that I have learned to dislike A LOT!
His name is Murphy and he breaks things on purpose!

First he went after Seabiscuit...

Thank goodness Holly was around to whisk him off to the truck doctor.
He's back home now recovering from major surgery.
He had to have his starter and radiator replaced.

Next Murphy attacked the 2nd baby in the house (I'm #1)...
Mr. Five Burner BBQ.

Actually, Mom unwittingly helped Murphy with this disaster...
Note to BBQ lovers...when you don't clean out the grease for a while...
It catches on fire!

See this gauge?

When the pointer goes all the way to the right...
Bad things happen!

Baby BBQ is okay again now.
All of his burners and accompanying parts were replaced.

I'll give Murphy one thing. He's not lazy.
As soon as BBQ was working again, he brought another "friend" to stay with us...

Now I have no nice things to say about this guy.
As a matter of fact I can honestly say I HATE HIM!
We've tried every thing we know to get rid of him...
We hired professional pest people. They've been here FOUR times!
He's not gone yet. :(

If anyone has some ideas, please share.
The many layers of nasty chemicals sprayed and sprinkled
in our yard and house isn't working.
The Advantage isn't working.
The Apple Cider Vinegar in my water isn't working.
I'm way over all the itching and scratching.
It'll take weeks to grow all my hair back :(
The Roo Family is at its wits end!

Now, on a happier note...

My super great furiends Gizmo, Bart and Ruby
gave me a very special award...
Thanks guys! You made me smile BIG! :D

There are so many creative bloggy furiends I want to give this to...
I'm hoping that these five super creative furiends will pass it on to the many
other incredibly creative bloggy furiends I so enjoy
and perhaps some I haven't had the pleasure to meet yet :)

Y'all inspire and entertain me so much! :D

Waggin at ya from Murphyville,
Roo

The Tail End

Thank goodness Alien came to help Mom.
They're both in the lab now trying to figure out how to get my tail back...

Meanwhile...

And then they said they were ready
and I should come into the lab...

I'm so happy to have my tail back! :)

PeeS: Thank you again Alien for coming to help Mom. You're a genius!

An Earthy Distraction

First, I must thank all of you for sharing your opinions on which
temporary tail would suit me best.
When last I looked, there was a four way tie between
the pig, cheetah, peacock and squirrel.
The only front runner was No Tail. Sigh.
So, Mom hung up all the tied tails in her closet.
This way I can choose whichever one suits me at the moment.

I am trying to give the No Tail a chance today.

And to distract my mind from this tail thing, I have taken up gardening.
I brought in some dirt a few days ago to spruce up the beds...

And planted some veggies and herbs.
They're coming right along too! I'm thinkin I have a green paw :)

Have a look for yourselves...

This is my raised bed. I planted...

Yellow Squash...

Tomato. If you look close in the center, you can see a baby green one!

And...

these are baby tomato plants I started from seed. It's a bit of an experiment.
Hopefully they will grow big :)

In the row along the fence I planted some...

Corn and...

Okra.

And in various other little pots strewn across the yard I planted...

another tomato...

Arugula and a spring mix of lettuce...

Basil and culantro and...

some dill that's just starting to sprout.

Mom thought I should share some of the flowers we have now too.
They are pretty to look at but I mainly like them because
the lizards hang out there.
Mom says that's why we don't have very many. Harrumph.
Anyway, here they are...

Vincas or Primroses...

Petunias...

the Dutch Pipe Vine.
Mom put her hand there so you could see how large the flowers are.
They average about six inches.

And lastly, the jatrophe.

Hope you enjoyed touring my garden with me.

I'm liking this gardening thing :)

Wiggling at ya,
Roo
