The Project

So I asked Mom if she'd made my blanket for me yet.
She said "no".
"With the holidays and all I just haven't had time Roo. I'm sorry."
Humph. :(
It's cold Mom and I really need my blanky.
"Well I did buy the fabric. Do you want to help me make it?"
Mom, I don't know how to sew!
"That's okay" she says. "I don't either."
Hmmmm...thinkin Holy Poop!

"I did find some "easy" directions on the internet though" she says.
"I think we can do this." "Let's try k?"
Oh why not I say.

"Okay, first it says we have to cut the salvage edges off."
I ask what a salvage edge is. "It's the part that doesn't look too good" she says.
Okay, then what? "Then we have to pin the edges."
"I think you could do this part Roo and
then I'll do the part with the sewing machine."
"Let me know when you're done" she says.

A couple hours later...

Whew! That took furever!

Mom inspects...

"This outa work just fine." "Good job Roo!"
Thinkin with your 'vast sewing knowledge' Mom,
Those kudos mean a lot ?
Anyway, what's next?
"Now the directions say we need to stitch up all the sides
leaving one corner open so we can turn it inside out."
"I'll get the sewing machine" she says.

Hmmm... looks complicated. How's it work?
"I don't remember but I do have the manual"
she says with a look of triumph on her face.

I'm thinkin I might not want to watch this.
I'll just hang out in the chair. Let me know when you're done.

So I did my best to nap with the sound of tatatatatata in the background
interspersed with the sounds of pages turnin.
After I don't know how long, Mom says "Done!" "Come take a look."

Is the stitchin suppose to bend in and out like that?
"Well not really but I think it'll look okay once we turn it inside out" she says.
I figure sayin nothin else right now is best. ;)
So she pulls the fabric through the hole and then does a final stitch to close it and...

Viola! "A horsey blanky for the pony" she says laughing.
Pony? I thought this was my blanket?
"It is. Just kidding" she says with a skewed smile.

Ahhh nice and warm.

Thinkin we didn't do too bad for novices :)
Roo

  2. This is most impressive. Mama's sewing skills are lacking. She has tried those sewing machines, but things always turn ugly - putting a couple of stitches through her finger, etc. Your blanket looks very comfy cozy! Enjoy, my friend!

  17. Roo! You are soooooo lucky! My momma's sewing skills are about as 'good' as your moms sound. Butt, I bet my momma would have given up and just given us da material to use as a blanket and passed on da sewing part!! sigh.

Hope you have a warm and cozy Christmas, with your new blankie~

  18. You are most talented, especially the part where you were able to sleep with that awful sewing machine noise in the background. I really like that final picture of you under the blanket. We got your card the other day; thank you so much! Miss M has it hanging on the door of her crate.

  24. Hi Roo!!!

I love your blanket. You did an awesome job for novices!!!!!!

I'm so sorry that I didn't reply to your email. Life has been so out of control here at my house. I know that it's too late now - but it's the thought that counts. So Merry Christmas to you!!!!!

  25. That is so funny! I remember when I did a blanket for Kirby and I pulled out the sewing machine which I hadn't used in years. It actually didn't come out too bad. I figured Kirby is the only one who has to look at it and he didn't care!

    Great job!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

  27. Roo,

That's a very cozy looking blanky. Does it get very chilly in Florida? I bet it gets colder than we think.

You've been more successful than we have in getting a blanky made. We've been asking Mom for years and still no blanky. She has the material and the machine I have no idea what she's waiting on.

That's just like her. Last weekend I laid in the hallway wishfully watching Mom bake cookies hoping she was making something from one of our cookbooks. Guess what? NOPE! They was baking chocolate chip cookies for peoples. What?? I waited so patiently and I even made a few trips into the kitchen to see if all was going well or if she needed my help. How rude!

I'm still waiting on my blanky and my bacon cheese biscuits.

I'm showing this post of yours to Mom and giving her a giant hint :)

    Emma
